Bansi
Palace is situated on the banks of the river rapti in District
sidharthnagar. It is a mere 30 kms. from piparhwa (kapilvastu) which is
declared to be of great importance after the discovery of the 'Stupa' in 1897 by V.A.
Smith. At a depth of ten feet below, the then summit of the mound, a broken
soapstone casket, full of clay and embedded with beads, crystals, gold
ornaments, cut stars etc. was found. A circular pipe made of moulded or cut
to size bricks was observed below the casket.
Of all the finds, the
most important was the inscription on the lid of the smaller soapstone
casket which provided a clue to the identification of Kapilvastu by
its reference to Buddha and his community 'SAKYA'.
A.S. Geden, while writing in the Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics,
firmly believed piparhva was ancient kapilvastu. The inscription when read
was understood to describe to relics enclosed in the vase as those of
Buddha himself and it was inferred that these fragments of bone were
the actual portions of the body of Gautam budha, preserved after cremation
over which was erected the stupa.
PIPRAWAH is located in the picturesque
surrounding of dense 'Sal'
forest (lat. 27o 26' 30" M; long. 83o 7' 50" E). It is
not very far from the foot of the Himalayas. There are several huge lakes
not far off from the ancient site. The land in and around is very fertile,
producing the best quality of rice in India. As a matter of fact the area
can be aptly called the 'rice bowl' because of the innumerable varieties
produced here.

HISTORIC NOSTALGIA
Placid waters lap gently as
time stands still and one is transported into a world of the past. The
history of the House of Bansi traces back to the 13th century when the
chiefs of Bansi were independent Princes with the power to make war or peace
with neighbouring tribes. Held in high esteem by Indian Emperors and
especially by Akbar the Great, they occupied the entire area between
Gorakhpur and Gonda.
Years breeze by and past centuries come to life at the historic Bansi
Palace, the magnificent home to the descendants of the 13th century Srinet
Rajput of the solar Dynasty.
Within the precinets of
these time weathered walls is Bansi Palace - a bastion of proud Rajput
traditions bathed in the ambience of unmistakable U.P. and Awadhi culture. A
home where in spite of the inroads of modernity, aristocratic norms are still
revered and where one can experience the famed warm and courteous
Awadh hospitality. WHAT WE OFFER
